Description

Yes, there are carnivorous bromeliads too! While it exceedingly rare in cultivation, Catopsis berteroniana is found throughout the Caribbean and tropical America, where it grows as an epiphyte (above ground in the trees). They have a layer of powdery white on much of their leaf surfaces, and this attracts nighttime insects that are attracted to ultraviolet. Insects slip and fall into the central 'urn', where they are digested by the plant. They are a wonderful and unique addition to any carnivorous plant collection, and quite a conversation piece in their own right! All our plants are shipped potted and ready to grow to reduce stress, not bareroot as you find with many other suppliers.
