Description

As its name implies, this butterwort species may very well be the LARGEST one out there! Pinguicula gigantea was found in the early 1990s by well-known botanist Alfred Lau (also the creator of the variety called Pinguicula 'A.L. 13'). It was first called Pinguicula ssp. 'Ayautla' due to its natural location - near Ayautla, Oaxaca, Mexico. It's yellowish-green leaves can be up to six inches long, and the entire plant can attain a diameter of up to 12 INCHES across, making it a MASSIVE bug-catcher; and whereas most butterworts only produce the sticky mucilage on the top side of their leaves, this species does it on both top AND bottom sides. Talk about a bug MAGNET! Picture is representative of full-grown (Extra-Large) plants, suitable for 4-inch or larger pots. All our plants are shipped potted and ready to grow to reduce stress.
