Pitcher Plants (Sarracenia)
Easy to care for carnivorous plants, with the entire leaf being transformed into a cylindrical tube. Some varieties are short and squat, while others have upright tubes up to three or more feet tall. Once the bugs slip inside, it's curtains for them! Wonderful plants for catching loads of insects of all types. Year-round outdoor growing in temperate areas - ours stay outside all year long here in Houston. Needs direct sunlight, medium-high humidity, and pure water. See our Carnivorous Plant Care pages for more detailed information. PLEASE NOTE that photographs of specific items are for informational purposes only, and do not represent the actual plant, or even the size of the plant, that you will receive. Also, Sarracenia plants will be dormant or near dormant (with some/all pitchers cut off) when shipped in winter/early spring, and will resume new pitcher growth in spring as temperatures warm.
- Small Potted: young plant with immature leaves in a 3-inch pot.
- Medium Potted: 2-3 year old plant with immature and mature leaves.
- Large Potted: Adult leaves, flowering or near-flowering size
- Large Bareroot: Adult plant - unpotted.
- Extra-Large Bareroot: Multiple growth points on an adult plant - unpotted.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WHILE WE DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, THE PITCHERS ON LARGER PLANTS MIGHT BE FOLDED OVER OR TRIMMED DURING PACKAGING TO ALLOW THE PLANTS TO BE SHIPPED MORE ECONOMICALLY. USPS CHARGES 'DIMENSIONAL WEIGHT' (WHICH IS VASTLY MORE EXPENSIVE) FOR PACKAGES WITH ANY ONE SIDE OVER 12 INCHES LONG, AND WE WILL MAKE OUR BEST JUDGEMENT CALL PRIOR TO SHIPPING! AND, OF COURSE, NEW PITCHERS ARE CONSTANTLY FORMING ON THESE WONDERFUL PLANTS, SO THE BENDING/TRIMMING DOES NOT IMPACT THE OVERALL HEALTH OF THE PLANTS.
