Just in time for Halloween...this flytrap variety looks like it's covered in SCALES! The trap itself looks like your typical trap, and colors up very nicely; so at first glance, these look like any regular VFT. But look closer...the leaves are covered with upraised projections that look like SCALES. WILD!! A definite must for reptile enthusiasts, and for anyone else who likes odd-looking plants. The inside of the traps will turn red when grown in bright light. All our plants are shipped potted and ready to grow to reduce stress, so all you do is water. Easy grower too!

Taxonomic update: We obtained our original plant of this clone many years ago, when it was available as simply Dionaea (Venus Flytrap) 'Schuppenstiel'. Since that time, however, there have been two distinct forms of scaly-leaved flytraps that have occurred. Appropriately, they have been named 'Schuppenstiel I' and 'Schuppenstiel II'. Since we obtained this one as simply 'Schuppenstiel', we have retained the original naming on the plant tags that accompany this plant. However, it conforms to the description of 'Schuppenstiel I'. We leave it up to the customer whether you opt to decide whether to call this one just 'Schuppenstiel' or 'Schuppenstiel I'.
